What do we mean? To explain, we need to properly define the term, design. Design, put simply, is the creative means by which a problem is solved. It is the constructive and methodical bridge between a question and an answer. However, design can often be misrepresented as a means of creative expression, sometimes by designers themselves. To create a solution to an external problem is an outward process, but to create a solution to an internal problem is an inward process. One is serving and the other is self-serving.
This important distinction means that we always work for and on behalf of our clients. We don't use design as an artistic outlet or a vehicle to bolster our creative egos, we don't seek to retain intellectual property after a client has paid for our service, and we don't view our profession as any more prestigious than any other.
